Phonology Mats - An extremely useful resource for students, tutors, teachers and parents to support the development of phonological awareness, spelling accuracy and reading confidence.

These mats allow students to explore the different spelling variations for each sound (phoneme), for example the /ee/ sound, by clearly mapping phonemes to graphemes and orthographic representations. This helps learners understand that one sound can be represented in multiple ways in written English, supporting more accurate spelling, stronger decoding skills and greater independence.

The English spelling system can often feel confusing and inconsistent for learners. These mats help to demystify spelling patterns by making sound–spelling correspondences explicit, visual and easy to revisit.
